OVERALL CLASS OBSERVATION


Aim: to carry out overall observation of a class and all its elements.

  1. The teacher used realia, to teach comparative form; in a plastic bag he had different things (a banana, flowers, little cars, box of matches, etc.) I think that to use realia is meaningful for students, but in this case, they were used ineffectively, because there were many things, and the teacher gave them to the students, without explaining them the porpoise and the students did not know the object’s name, before the teacher explained the instructions the students started to play with them. The porpoise was to describe and compare the objects, but the students were confused about how to do it.
  

  1. I think that the aim of the lesson was to introduce and practice comparative form, at the end of the lesson the objective was not totally achieved, because the students practiced just speaking skill, and they just said one sentence each one.

  1. The teacher talking time was 70% and the students 30%, the students did not have the opportunity of interact each other and to produce anything the activities were totally controlled.

  1. The teacher used English all the time, but the students did not speak in English each other, just when they have to participate in the class, or answer a teacher questions. If the students had a questions did not say to the teacher they asked to their classmates in Spanish.

  1. The learner’s participation was not very active in the lesson, the just participate when they were asked for, there not was voluntary participation, because the activities were not prepared for a participative class, they were controlled activities; the teacher did not motivate the students to participate.

  1. The atmosphere of the class was relaxed, because the teacher was flexible, kind, and he did not realize that the students were not totally compromise with the lesson, and the were not involved in the lesson’s activities.


  1. I do not think that the teacher praised the students, because he did not check or correct the activities, only when they answered the question the teacher made them, the teacher told them “good you are a nice student”. Therefore the teacher did not notice the learner’s performance in class.
